How your child learns with us

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage, seven areas of learning woven through play, indoors and out.

Learning through careful planning

Everything at Twinkle Star is organised around the Early Years Foundation Stage, the framework that guides how young children learn and develop. Our staff plan each child's experiences across its seven areas of learning.

The environment plays a key role too. Our rooms and garden are well equipped with age-appropriate resources, indoors and outdoors, and every child works towards the Early Learning Goals through play that is planned around their interests.

The seven areas of learning

Three prime areas build the foundations. Four specific areas grow from them.

Prime areas

Personal, social and emotional development

Confidence, friendships and feelings, the foundations of everything else.

Communication and language

Listening, understanding and finding the words to join in.

Physical development

Strong, confident movers, from first steps to climbing and balancing.

Specific areas

Literacy

Stories, rhymes, letters and sounds, every single day.

Mathematics

Numbers, shapes and patterns found in everyday play.

Understanding the world

People, places and nature, explored with curious eyes.

Expressive arts and design

Paint, music, role play and making, imagination given room.
